So, I've encountered a Wii that seems to have one of the new drives that won't read a burnt disc...NeoGamma give error 1149 (I think) when reading a burnt disc, but works fine on a retail one. Will these drives be able to read a burnt disc to copy to a HDD, or does it have to be a retail disc?

Also, on this same Wii, WAD Manager fails to work. error -1049 It's on system 4.1, cIOS installed 249, 250, and 202 all are installed so I'm not sure what the issue is. Haven't tried ATD or anything else like that yet. This Wii is not online, so please keep that in mind when offering solutions.

A D3-2 drive will not read a DVD±R. A burnt DVD works in a slightly different way from a pressed (retail) disc and these driveboards lack the hardware/firmware to read from DVD±R. This goes for playing games and ripping games. I believe they are also incapable of reading DVD Movies, pressed or burnt. To make this Wii read DVD±R you would have to change the driveboard (apparently difficult) or replace the whole drive with an older model (apparently easi[er]).

I don't know about -1049, sorry.

D3-2 drives will refuse DVD-Rs, or any burnt disc, use a USB Loader.

If you have 249 rev19, IOS38 is the only base that will work. But Yet Another WAD Manager (gbatemp) has a patch that will work with any IOS base.

I used IOS38, and I have the YAWADM of which you speak...it works fine on my Wii...I don't know where the problem is...did some looking and it seems that the error I was getting from NeoGamma is most likely due to the drive...dammit
